Upcoming Workshops at ADAH

The ADAH’s summer genealogy workshops are sponsored by the Friends of the Archives, a non-profit organization that supports the Alabama Department of Archives and History. (To learn more about the Friends or to become a member, visit friendsofthealabamaarchives.org.) The cost for each workshop is $30 for the public and $20 for students and Friends of the Archives members. The fee includes a boxed lunch. For questions or more information, call (334) 242-4364.

  • Genealogy 101: Breaking Ground
    Saturday, June 22, 2024, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm CDT

    This workshop is perfect for those just beginning to research their family history. It will feature step-by-step instruction by expert staff followed by hands-on research in the Alabama Department of Archives & History's EBSCO Research Room. Participants will develop a solid foundation to craft an effective research plan and valuable skills to navigate the wide variety of genealogical resources available at the Archives and online.   • African American Genealogy: Finding Your Story
    Saturday, June 27, 2024, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm CDT

    This workshop will equip participants to effectively navigate potential research roadblocks and address challenges specific to African American genealogical research. Following the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and share personal experiences in an open discussion with instructors and other researchers. This workshop is suited for all levels of research experience. Register here.
