Bettye Frink of Birmingham was born at Crossville, Dekalb County, February 19, 1933, daughter of Lester Love and Edna Leora (McMillian) Haynes. She attended public school in Alabama and Georgia, and completed Massey Business College in 1954. From 1955 through 1957 Mrs. Frink was employed by the U.S. Treasury Dispersing Office and the Internal Revenue Service. She was elected to the office of Secretary of State, 1959-1963, and served as Auditor from 1963-1967, 1975-1979, and re-elected for the term of 1979-1983. Mrs. Frink was chosen to the first elected State Board of Education and served until 1975. In 1960 she was a delegate, state-at-large to the Democratic National Convention.


Married to William David Frink, they have four children: Victor Farrel, William David Jr., Bettye Lynn, and Leigh Ellen. She is a Baptist.
