Alabama History Institutes

Alabama History Institutes are immersive professional development workshops in history and civics for K-12 public, private, and homeschool educators. Each three-day, in-person workshop will incorporate intensive classroom training, hands-on experiences at local museums, parks, and historic sites. Participants will receive a stipend and professional development credits.


Registration for 2021 Alabama History Institutes is now closed. Details about 2022 Institutes will be announced in late 2021.


The Alabama Department of Archives and History is closely monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic. Every Alabama History Institute workshop will comply with all safety and precautionary measures set forth by the ADAH, public health officials, state mandates, and the host sites.  


Requirements for 2021 Participants (Updated May 25, 2021):


1) In accordance with Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidance, masks and social distancing are optional for those who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.


2) Participants who are not fully vaccinated should wear a mask and maintain physical distancing, with the exception of while eating or drinking or when outside and maintaining social distance, as recommended by the CDC.


3) Sanitize or wash hands frequently.
