4. America's First Mardi Gras
Mobile, Mobile County
The first Mardi Gras celebration took place in the new settlement of Mobile in 1703.
Later, Mobilians, led by Michael Krafft, organized the first mystic societies in the 1830s and the first official Mardi Gras parade in 1840.
