39. First Capital of the Confederacy, 1861

Montgomery, Montgomery County
Montgomery served as the first capital of the Confederate States of America. President Jefferson Davis was inaugurated
on the portico of the state capitol on February 18, 1861. Three months later Confederate officials
moved the capital to Richmond, Virginia.
