Selma to Montgomery--Dallas, Lowndes and Montgomery counties
The events of Bloody Sunday, March 7, 1965--when law enforcement officials attacked peaceful civil rights marchers
on the Edmund Pettus bridge in Selma--and the successful Selma to Montgomery march two weeks later,
led to the passage of the federal 1965 Voting Rights Act.
